Episode 4 - Tom Henheffer
With me on this episode of Tell Me Something is Tom Henheffer. Henheffer is the executive director of Canadian Journalists for Free Expression. He's also a former classmate of mine, a web editor/reporter for MacLean's, and small business editor for the Toronto Star. Like me, he's a fan of fine whisky.
We had a great chat about the state of journalism, in which I'll admit I get a little animated and stumble a bit over my words, which is not the norm for me. But, it's a fun discussion that will definitely have a part two down the road because we only really scratched the surface.
We talked briefly about the World Press Freedom Index. Tom indicated that Canada ranked quite poorly. And while we are considered 19th in the world according to Reporters Without Borders, that is a sight better than 50-something that Tom had suggested. We didn't have the benefit of being around computers so we couldn't verify it at that time.
Fair warning: we say a four letter word that starts with "s" a few times. Apologies to those with sensitive ears.
UPDATE: Tom has clarified that he was speaking about Canada's ranking in Global Right to Information, which it did not fare all that favourably.
